Biography

Douglas Fowley Jr is a tri-national (American, Swiss, Irish) bilingual actor living in Switzerland. He began his theatrical career in 1970 with Earthlight Theater - street theatre at its finest -touring the United States and playing Off-Broadway New York.

He immersed himself in the study of oriental philosophy in India before immigrating to Europe where he studied contemporary ballet, mask theatre and voice.

He has participated in numerous workshops in Paris and Geneva, including with Zigmund Molik from the Grotowski Laboratory, Eugenio Barba and the Odin Teatret, as well as participating in Les Rencontres aux Bouffes du Nord with Peter Brook.

Douglas studied and performed Balinese mask and shadow theatre for a number of years.

He founded Theatre Kayonan in 1987, focusing his creative energies on the written text. He has interpreted Beckett, Dickens, Shakespeare, Steinbeck, Wilde, Yeats and others. Theatre Kayonan productions are presented in English and in French.

Douglas Fowley Jr. is also a voice artist and French to English translator.
